M8 Lagoon nebula in Hubble palette

There is only a small window for shooting in Sagittarius from the UK. M8 The Lagoon nebula (Sharpless Sh 25) hardly reaches 15 degrees above the horizon. So minimal exposures is the only option.

This is about 1 hour with each channel taken with the Sky 90 refractor and Astrodon narrowband filters with the Atik 490 CCD Camera.

The main open cluster in M8 is NGC 6530 with NGC 6533 and IC1271 in there as well. The entire region is labelled NGC 6523, RCW 146 & Gum 72. The globular cluster NGC 6544 sneaks in the bottom left.

This image was autoguided using my homemade off axis guider with Lodestar.
