Another visit to the Sharpless Catalogue. SH 188 is a dim old planetary nebula which is gradually being eroded to nothing by the interstellar medium.
The bright curve in the lower right is complemented by dim nebulosity extending up and right - although this is hardly visit in this image.
The delightfully delicate structural detail in this planetary nebula makes it one of the best narrow field targets in the Sharpless catalogue and responds well to narrowband imaging.
This black and white image is a long integration of 31x1200 frames over two moonless nights using the 8 inch newtonian and 6nm Ha filter.
