Making Money Online with Adwords and Clickbank

One of the favourite get rich quick online money making schemes that you run across on the instant millionaire style websites is affilate marketing - usually using something like Clickbank and the Google Adwords system.

How is this supposed to work? Really simple actually. Poeple create product. Who are these poeple? Well, mainly bored poeple trying to make some moeny on the internet. So they write an ebook on some topic in which they have some expertese. Next, they register their ebook with Clickbank.

Clickbank is gigantic clearing house /. cash and carry for online products. Like Google advertising programs it has two halves. There are peolpe with stuff to sell (mostly ebooks) and poeple with advertising space. The advertisers advertise specific products from the Clickbank catalogue, and when somebody buys one of these products, the advertiser gets a credit - between 5 and 80 percent of the sale.

Let us say I have a moderately interesting website about Rabbits. Looking through Clickbank I find an Ebook about Rabbit Breeding. I place a Clickbank generated link on my webpage "Get great rabbit breeding ebook here" : and sit back and collect my sales margin.

Where does Google come into all this? Well, maybe I don't have a website about Rabbits. Maybe I just use Adwords campaigns to create google ads which refer to the clickbank link based on the desired keywords. People search for terms relevent to the product I am selling, see my google ads, click on them, visit the ebook webpage and buy the ebook - I just sit back and watch the sales margin racking up in my clickbank account.

Really simple. So simply in fact, it is quite amazing that it doesn't actually work.

The reason is also terribly terribly simple. It is all to do with click through and conversation rates. As a rule of thumb, maybe 1% of the poeple who visit an ebook sales webpage will actually buy it. So to get one sale, I have to drive 100 people to the site. That is 100 clicks on my Google ad. There is the cost. 100 clicks could be anywhere from $5 to $500 - or more. I do hope you are getting lots of sales margin on that ebooks.

For most of us it is not going to work: It is not a get rich quick online money making scheme - it is just a good way of making charitable donatations to Google. Only the experts will make a slim margin in this game, and, if you want to become an expert, by all means try, but you're likely to loose a great deal of money in the process. It is not unusual to sink $100's per day into an Adwords account.
